Leah Germann is an artist and designer based in St Leonards on Sea, UK.
Recent work has explored Frustrations, Obstacles, Struggles and Accumulation over time, approached laterally across various media. Painting is the current primary focus in her practice although past work has also included printmaking, scultpture and installation.
Her Domestic Frustrations series is a recent figurative angle on these themes, and references the contradiction between the seemingly small, at times absurd, nature of everyday domestic tasks and the heavy ‘last straw’ weight they can carry.
The more recent Shoulds & Shouldn’ts series explores things people say and things we tell ourselves, and relates to ideas such conflicting internal dialogues, hindsight, and the inclination to ignore our own warnings, plus all the myriad directives we receive from others.
Other interests and recurring themes in her work include ‘breaking points’, shortcuts, schadenfreude and the role of humour in coping, as well as the Lives of Objects, and Appliances – Friend or Foe??. Everyday moments and language also play an inspiring role.
